Sustainable Buildings

Learn about what a building needs to be more sustainable!

Sustainable Buildings

Let’s learn about Global Goal 9: Innovation, Industry and Infrastructure.

Energy efficiency

A sustainable building should use as little energy as possible.

This can be achieved through insulation, efficient lighting, and appliances, and the use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels.

Water efficiency

A sustainable building should also use water efficiently.

This can be achieved through the use of low-flow fixtures and appliances, as well as systems for rainwater harvesting and grey water reuse.

Sustainable materials

Sustainable buildings should be constructed using materials that have a low environmental impact.

Such as recycled or renewable materials, and materials that have been locally sourced to reduce transportation emissions.

Indoor environmental quality

Sustainable buildings should be designed to provide a healthy and comfortable indoor environment for occupants.

This can be achieved through good ventilation, natural lighting, and the use of non-toxic materials.

Waste reduction

Sustainable buildings should reduce waste, both during construction and operation.

This can be achieved through waste reduction strategies such as recycling and composting.

What are Sustainable Building Materials?

Sustainable building materials are environmentally responsible materials that have a low environmental impact from production to disposal.

Why are Sustainable Building Materials Important?

They help reduce the environmental impact of construction.

They promote the use of renewable resources

Can you design a sustainable building?

What materials will you use?

How will you ensure its energy and water efficiency?

What will the outside area look like?

Will you make sure the building has natural light?

Amazing!

You have learned all about sustainable buildings as part of your work on Global Goal 9: Innovation, Industry and Infrastructure.

Can you carry out your own research on sustainable buildings?

Use this information to design your own building!

The End!
