Lesson steps

Before the lesson begins, mark out a safe space for the children to move around.

To warm up, use dice and spin to see which animal the class should act out with their bodies.

Recap on moves that the children have already practised.

Spin to see which arctic animal the class should act out with their bodies.

Ask the children what they think is good for the planet and bad for the planet, work through the Good or Bad quiz and discuss why they are good and bad.

Ask the children to put their thumbs up and down and explain what they think.

A quiz to help figure out what's good or bad for the planet!

Create a green area associated with good and a red area for anything bad for the planet.

Use cones to mark these areas! Use the Sounds of the Arctic to add an ambient sound to the action!

When a good or bad image appears within the presentation, get the groups to move to the area they think is the correct answer.

Change the levels of difficulty:

Tricky: When an image appears and after discussion, move as a class into the green or red area.

Trickier: Whole class starts in-between the red and green area, and each time an image appears they take a giant step towards the green or red area.

Trickiest: In small groups, after each image move into the red or green area. Follow-up with a class review.

Turn the lights on and off

Flip a yellow cone on top of another coloured cone to represent lights on. How quickly can we turn the lights off?Try as a class, 1 group at a time (turning on and off, changing by putting the coloured cone on top), or race against another team 5 passes turn a light off.
