Blowing Bubbles, Clean Air Rules!

Blow a bubble using the bubble mixture and learn about clean air!

Lesson steps

Prior to this lesson you will need to get lots of bubble mixture! This can be picked up from most supermarkets.

 Plants and trees produce oxygen for us all to breath AND - they also clean the air around us! How cool is that!? That’s why it’s so important, even in cities, to have lots of trees!

Air pollution costs London’s £3.7 BILLION a year!

Take children outside and ask them to stand in a circle.

Blow a bubble using the bubble mixture and homemade wand.

A bubble is like a breath. Floating up and falling down. Until it POPS!

Continue to blow bubbles and watch them rise and fall. Let’s celebrate clean air!

Why should we celebrate clean air? Listen to opinions.

Allow children to work with a partner and spend time making their own bubbles.

Perhaps their partner could pop them!

Return to class and look at the Solutions List together. Think about how you could encourage children and parents at your school to take action.

Experiment with bubbles

Continue to experiment with making bubbles, try other items to see if they work e.g. fly swatters, funnels, cookie cutters, pipe cleaners that are twisted into a circle with a handle.

Bubble extravaganza!

Invite the whole school to blow bubbles and fill the sky above to celebrate clean air.

Coloured water funnels

Add washing up liquid and food colouring to the water tray. Place different coloured funnels, cups, containers inside. Experiment with the water.

Writing time!

In the writing area, place a large sheet of reused bubble wrap. Ask children to write some simple words using digraphs sh, ch, One bubble is one sound or digraph e.g. ch o p, sh o p.
