Earth Overshoot Day
Michelle Parkes ·
Each year our demand for our ecological resources exceeds what the Earth can regenerate in that year. After that date, we're overshooting Earth's capacity. Sadly the trend is bringing that date forward and this year it fell on 2nd August.

This is however just the global average, some countries such as Qatar and Luxembourg actually reach their overshoot days in FEBRUARY!

Obviously this is not sustainable and can be pretty overwhelming. But there is a real power of possibility. Individuals working to better their communities and bringing existing solutions to scale. We can call on governments and businesses to align existing and future policies to protect our planet rather that destroy it.
The incredible Earth Overshoot Day website highlights the power of possibility with a large variety of existing solutions and case studies. All of these could be deployed at scale and make us and our planet more resilient.
From low impact cheese, to planet-based schools meals and circular fashion; they are discussed in more detail along with the impact they could have if replicated at scale. Check it out!
