Don't Bin It! 4 Creative Ways to Recycle Old Tennis Balls

Michelle Parkes ·

Before you throw your old tennis ball away, STOP! That fuzzy ball still has plenty of bounce left in life… just not on the court.

Believe it or not, old tennis balls can be super useful. Let's turn your worn-out tennis balls into something new.

1. Make a Massager

Ever get a sore back or tired feet after running around all day? Put a couple of old tennis balls in a sock or bag, tie it up, and roll it under your feet or back while lying down. It’s like a mini massage, made by you! Athletes and grown-ups use this trick all the time. Now you know the secret too.

Relaxation and recycling all in one? Brilliant.

2. Make a Treasure Pot

Want to hide your pocket money or a little treasure? Slice a tennis ball so it can open and close like a little mouth. Tuck your money or treasure inside and no one will guess what's inside that innocent-looking tennis ball!

Top tip: draw a silly face on it to make it look like a funny little creature guarding your loot.

3. Pet Toy Party

Got a dog that loves to chew? Or a cat that bats everything across the floor? Old tennis balls are brilliant pet toys. You can cut holes in them and stuff treats inside, or dangle them on a string for a DIY cat toy. They’ll chase, chew, and play for hours and it means you’re not wasting a thing.

4. Home for small animals

Old tennis balls can make cosy little hideouts for small animals like hamsters, mice or garden insects. By carefully cutting a hole in the side, you can create a snug entrance, turning the ball into a mini shelter. Line it with a bit of soft bedding, and you’ve got a warm, safe space where tiny creatures can curl up or take cover.
