Amazing Arctic Animals

Warm up with this PE lesson whilst also learning about amazing Arctic animals!

Lesson steps

To prep, make sure there is enough space for all children to move and mark out a safe space for the children to move around.

Look at the Amazing Arctic Animals provided on the interactive whiteboard. Describe the animals and talk about how they might move.

Amazing Arctic Animals

Look at all these amazing animals in the Arctic!

Ask the children to move like the different Arctic animals.

Remember to use high and low levels. Use the Arctic music to help promote more movement!

Ask the children to move like sea-based animals, as you hear them called out.

Animals such as: Sea Penguin, Shark, Seal or Whale.

Use key questions provided.

Now ask the children to move like land-based animals, as you hear them called out.

Animals such as: Walrus, Polar Bear, Arctic Hare, and Fox.

Now move like the different air-based animals, as you hear them called out.

Animals such as: Owl and Eagle.

Using dice, spin to see which animal the class should act out with their bodies.

Spin to see which arctic animal the class should act out with their bodies.

Ask the children what Arctic animals they remember.

Let's finish with a skill! Roll dice, ask the children if they can make an Arctic animal shape with that number of points in contact with the floor.

Different levels of difficulty:

Tricky: Balance with a big base, more points of balance. Trickier: Balance with smaller base, fewer points of balance. Trickiest: Balance in a form of a shape. Remember to hold your balance with control and keep your tummy tight.
