Focus on welfare animal charities

Michelle Parkes ·

Every year on 4th October we celebrate World Animal Day. Earth Cubs loves to celebrate the awe and wonder of the natural world. Inspiring and encouraging the next generation of global citizens to look after our planet and all those who live on it.

That includes the incredible animals that we live alongside. World Animal Day is about uniting the animal welfare movement; to make the world a better place for ALL animals.

This World Animal Day we wanted to highlight some amazing charities around the world who are working tirelessly to protect, educate and care for animals big and small.

ARC GoaARC Goa

Having visited this amazing rescue centre in Goa personally, I was blown away by their hard work.

Set up by Janie as a direct response to the inhumane treatment of animals in South Goa, ARC works so hard with little budget.

Relying on tourists for help as well as fundraising, they do incredible work for local animals. From dogs to cats and even cows; nothing is too big or small! Not only have they helped to reduce rabies infections but have also impactfully set up a Animal Birth Control Programme.

The Donkey SanctuaryThe Donkey Sanctuary

With their beautiful faces and long fluffy ears, you can’t help but love donkeys. And the Donkey Sanctuary is leading the way to helping these wonderful animals.

Starting back in the late 1960s, Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE, made a dedication to a donkey called Naughty Face!

Since then, they have taken over 20,000 donkeys into their care. Their mission is to end suffering for donkeys and ensure their welfare all over the world.

The Green Heritage Fund SurinameThe Green Heritage Fund Suriname

Sadly there are multiple threats facing sloths in the wild. Habitat loss is a huge issue as many areas of Suriname suffer from the impact of gold mining and cattle farming which causes huge areas of the forest to be cleared. On top of that the illegal wildlife trade leads to many sloths being taken from the forests to live with humans. Sadly this rarely ends well for the sloths as they don’t live long in captivity.

This incredible charity not only rescues sloths, anteaters and armadillos; rehabilitating and then releasing into the wild. But it educates and encourages Surinamese children and adults to rediscover their bond with nature.

Elephant Valley, CambodiaElephant Valley, Cambodia

The elephant is one of the most majestic beasts to roam our planet and Elephant Valley Project in Cambodia is doing an amazing job of improving the captive elephant’s health and welfare situation. They have not only a large sanctuary but offer social support programmes for the local people.

They encourage the local community to protect their forest and natural resources so that the habitat of the elephants remains pristine.

Why not take a closer look at these charities and donate some money if you can!
