Eat the Rainbow: Why Colourful Fruits & Vegetables Are Good for Kids

Michelle Parkes ·

Eating the Rainbow is all about filling your plate with lots of colourful fruits and veggies! Each colour gives your body special powers!

Why Eating the Rainbow is so Important

Different colours in fruits and vegetables mean they have different vitamins and nutrients. The more colours you eat, the better it is for your body.

  • Red (like strawberries, tomatoes, watermelon) ❤️ These help keep your heart strong and give you energy to run, jump, and play.
  • Orange & Yellow (like carrots, sweetcorn, bananas, oranges) 🧡💛 These are packed with vitamin C and vitamin A, which help your eyes see better and keep your immune system fighting fit, so you can fight off colds like a superhero.
  • Green (like broccoli, spinach, peas, kiwi) 💚 Greens are full of vitamins that make your bones and muscles strong.
  • Blue & Purple (like blueberries, grapes, eggplant) 💙💜 These foods protect your brain and memory, like a shield for your thinking powers.
  • White & Brown (like garlic, onions, mushrooms, potatoes) 🤍🤎 These may not look as bright, but they’re still super important for fighting germs and keeping your body healthy.

Fun Food Facts

  • A tomato is actually a fruit (but don’t tell the salad police).
  • Carrots used to be purple a long time ago. Orange carrots are the “new” version!
  • Blue foods are the rarest in nature, which is why blueberries are so special and taste so good!

When you eat lots of different colours every day, you’re giving your body all the tools it needs to grow strong, stay healthy, and feel awesome.

So next time you sit down to eat, ask yourself: “How many colours are on my plate today?” If it looks like a rainbow, you’re doing it right.
