A day in the life of Otto the Octopus
Michelle Parkes ·
Hello Earth Cubs! My name is Otto the Octopus and I live in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I LOVE living here, let me show you around and we can learn about the amazing underwater life and creatures.

I’m an invertebrate which means I don’t have any bones. How cool is that! It means I can sneak into very small spaces. My favourite game is hide and seek with my coral reef friends. AND I can change colour to hide even better!

Look at all my amazing arms - I have 8 of them. Sometimes I use two of them like legs and run across the ocean floor. The suckers on my arms can grab and help me taste things. I then use my hard beak to break into my food like crabs and shellfish.

Want to know why I LOVE everything so much? I have 3 hearts! One of my hearts pumps blood to my organs. The other two pump blood to my gills. Us Octopi are also blue-blooded. But I’m not related to the Queen unfortunately.
Do you like swimming as much as I do? I’m a GREAT swimmer, I even use jet propulsion to zoom around. I force water out of my body that makes me go even faster!

I am very house proud and collect shells and cool rocks to make it look awesome.

How do you make an octopus laugh?
You give it ten-tickles!
It’s really important that we all look after the Great Barrier Reef. It’s home to all my lovely friends and coral is so important to marine life. Let’s Learn the World together!
Loads of love, Otto.
